On Feb. 3, my husband and I, as well as over 100 Virginia citizens from all over the commonwealth, witnessed a disturbing sight on the ninth floor of the General Assembly building. All of us gathered that morning to support HJ763, a bill that states: “No district shall be drawn for the purpose of favoring or disfavoring any political party, incumbent legislator, member of Congress, or other individual or entity.” This bill was sponsored by Del. Steve Landes, R-Weyers Cave. On Jan. 30, the bill had been tabled by the House Constitutional Amendment Subcommittee, not allowing the bill to move forward.
