Having state lawmakers draw state House and Senate districts is the fairest way, according to two Martinsville City Council members who oppose the city’s show of support for redistricting reform efforts. State House of Delegates and Senate districts are redrawn every 10 years following U.S. Censuses to try and ensure that no district has more influence than another. Currently, each delegate represents about 83,000 people and each senator represents a little more than 200,000.
