Redistricting fight a costly curiosity

On Wednesday, the Virginia Supreme Court agreed to hear a case that could affect state law and have ramifications for how Virginians elect their politicians.

The broad issue is how the General Assembly draws congressional districts and its own legislative boundaries. A reform group, OneVirginia 2021, argues in a lawsuit that the House of Delegates and Senate’s redistricting plans are illegal under the state Constitution. The nonpartisan nonprofit contends the districts fail the “compactness” test.
