Monday was OneVirginia2021 lobby day at the Virginia Capitol in Richmond. Supporters of redistricting reform rallied behind constitutional amendments to prevent gerrymandering of electoral districts. Del. Sam Rasoul, D-Roanoke, is a proponent of “good government” bills, and has proposed HB 2160 to create an Interim Redistricting Commission to redraw districts that are deemed to be unlawful or unconstitutional. The seven-member commission would be made up of four members of political parties who are not also members of Congress or the General Assembly and three independent, nonpartisan public officials.
