Redistricting Reform Alive and Well in Virginia

One way or another, redistricting reform in the commonwealth is moving forward through the General Assembly — something cynical pundits never truly believed would be tackled in any meaningful way. Oh, it’s been by fits and start and smoke-filled room deals, but advocates for changing Virginia’s hyperpartisan way of drawing its federal and state legislative districts are cautiously optimistic.

Monday in Richmond, Republican leaders of the House of Delegates, including House Speaker Kirk Cox, a longtime reform foe, came out in support of a newly introduced reform proposal.
