Early this morning, an elite group of Virginia legislators has a chance to advance their state’s interests. Whether they will is anybody’s guess.

What’s on the table is an urgently needed, well-crafted, nonpartisan plan to end the gerrymandering that keeps incumbents in power and shuts too many voters out of having a real say in who represents them, and whether legislators listen and act on their constituents’ concerns.

When it comes to drawing voting districts for the House of Delegates, state Senate and Congress, the status quo may benefit party leaders and powerful donors, but it harms the little guy, the Joe or Josephine who has the most to lose when politics becomes a rigged game.
