On the same evening Gov. Terry McAuliffe was delivering his annual State of the Commonwealth to a joint session of the General Assembly, the New York Times published a news story in which he played a starring role. According to the paper, Virginia’s governor was one of a very elite group of Democrats summoned to the Obama White House for a “quiet huddle” with former Attorney General Eric Holder, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. The reported purpose of the meeting: to break the “iron grip” of the Republican Party in Congress. More specifically, those present were there to hear Mr. Holder describe his new partisan initiative, the National Democratic Redistricting Committee.
